Southwest Virginia experienced its first significant snowstorm in over 700 days, with some areas receiving up to 5 inches of snow, ending a long snow drought. The First Alert Weather Team's forecast of 1-2 inches was generally accurate, but some areas received more due to a heavy snow band. Snowfall totals ranged from 0.8 inches to 8 inches across various locations in the region.
The First Alert Weather Team has issued a ‘ONE TO WATCH” for Sunday afternoon and evening, with a chance for strong and severe storms bringing damaging wind, hail, and heavy rain as the main threats.
The First Alert Weather Team predicts heavy rain and strong wind gusts for Memorial Day Weekend in central North Carolina. Rain chances remain above 60 percent all day on Saturday, increasing up to 97 percent midday. Rain is likely all day Sunday too, but it will not be as all encompassing as Saturday. Everyone in the ABC11 viewing area can expect to get at least 1 inch of rain. By Monday, things start to improve gradually with temperatures increasing into the mid 70s and the rain becoming scattered.
