While American car companies have made us accustomed to large V8 engines, there have been some models with small displacement V8s, mostly in European cars. Some of the smallest displacement production V8s ever made include the Fiat 8V with a 2.0 liter 104 hp engine, the Ferrari 208 Turbo with a 2.0 liter V8 engine that made 168 hp, and the Ford Flathead V8 with a 2.2 liter V8 engine that put out 60 horsepower. Other models with small V8s include the Daimler V8, Tatra 603, and BMW 735i.

Spring has brought a new crop of little electric vehicles, including the Fiat 500e and Abarth 500e, and the Volvo EV30 subcompact SUV, which are likely to be sold in the US. The Fiat Topolino EV, a two-seater runabout, is unlikely to cross the Atlantic. The Volvo EV30 promises a 275-mile range and a $35k sticker price. The Abarth 500e has a small-dog-with-big-growl exhaust note and is expected to arrive in the US early in 2024. The Topolino EV, developed for "micro-mobility," has a range of around 45 miles and is ideal for congested city centers that may ban internal combustion vehicles.
