Routine Eye Exams May Detect Early Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease
Scientists have found that changes in retinal blood vessels, observable during routine eye exams, could serve as early indicators of Alzheimer's disease, as the retina shares tissue with the brain. The study, involving mice with a genetic risk factor, showed vascular abnormalities that may precede cognitive symptoms, suggesting eye exams could become a non-invasive method for early detection of neurodegenerative diseases.
