"Trump's Revenge: The Potential Realities of a Second Term"

Donald Trump's extreme rhetoric, filled with vows of vengeance and retribution, has become a mainstay of his 2024 campaign, with many of his pledges backed by a policy and personnel infrastructure designed to turn his words into reality if he wins another term. His threats to target political enemies and direct Justice Department investigations are supported by allies who view his second term as driven by a maximalist theory of a president’s authority. Despite facing criminal indictments, Trump's rhetoric is far from empty, and if he manages to win the presidential election, he and his allies will enter the White House more emboldened and politically powerful than any recent administration, with a more expansive view of presidential authority.

Texas veteran sentenced to prison for Capitol breach.

Larry Brock, a US Air Force veteran, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. Brock was found guilty on six charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding, during a bench trial in November 2022. Prosecutors allege that Brock walked around the Senate chamber for eight minutes during the Capitol attack, rifling through senators’ desks while wearing a helmet, tactical vest, and carrying plastic flex-cuffs. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the Capitol attack before imposing a sentence and read some of Brock’s social media posts during the hearing, including one that said: “I bought myself body armor and a helmet for a civil war that is coming.”
