Nigerian Students Allege Extortion by Embassy Staff During Sudan Evacuation

Two Nigerian students stranded in Sudan due to the ongoing war have accused embassy staff in Khartoum of extorting $250 from them in the name of evacuation. The students said they were first asked to pay $150 ($75 each) for their evacuation, which they requested from their families in Nigeria. The embassy staff then demanded an additional $100 ($50 each) from both of them to facilitate their evacuation. The Nigerian government had provided six buses to evacuate Nigerian students studying in Khartoum, but some of the buses were reportedly hijacked by non-documented Nigerians residing in Sudan.
