The suspect, Alexander Grunke, was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Wisconsin, during which the 13-year-old was found dead. Grunke was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an Albion home. The cause of the teenager's death is unknown, and Grunke had previously been charged with abduction and interference with child custody.

The city of Dubuque is preparing to close off its entire flood system for the third time since 1973 as floodwaters continue to rise along the Mississippi River. Dubuque Public Works Director John Klostermann says they started closing floodgates once the river was predicted to rise over 14 feet. Closing the whole system would keep floodwaters from getting into the city. Meanwhile, flooding has also caused the closure of Highway 76 and the Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing.
