TikTok trend of using sour candy to alleviate anxiety attacks has some scientific backing. The sour taste distracts the brain from negative emotions and shifts attention to the present moment, dampening the amygdala's response and giving better access to the thinking part of the brain. However, it is not a cure for anxiety and can become a maladaptive coping mechanism. Cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based meditation, and physical exercise are more effective strategies for managing anxiety disorders.
