Taiwan President's US Visit Sparks Tensions Between US and China.

The Biden administration has informed China that the expected stopovers in the US by Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen are routine and should not be used as a pretext for aggressive activity in the Taiwan Strait. The Taiwanese president is tentatively scheduled to transit through New York on March 30 before heading to Guatemala and Belize, and is expected to stop in Los Angeles on April 5 on her way back to Taiwan. The US officials are trying to avoid a heavy-handed response by China, which came after then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan last year.
