Dharmesh Patel, a Pasadena doctor accused of intentionally driving his family off a Northern California cliff, may be placed in a mental health diversion program instead of prison. Patel, who has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, could be released from jail this summer to live with his parents while undergoing a two-year treatment program. The incident occurred on January 2, 2023, when Patel's Tesla plunged 250 feet off Devil's Slide, but the family survived. His wife claimed he was depressed and attempted to kill himself and their family.
