A cold front moving across northern Colorado is expected to bring cooler temperatures, showers, and thunderstorms to the Front Range and Denver metro area. A First Alert Weather Day has been issued due to the potential for heavy rain during the afternoon. The storms may produce heavy pockets of rain between 5pm and 11pm, with rainfall intensity decreasing overnight. Cooler temperatures and a few afternoon showers are expected on Friday, while the weekend is forecasted to be dry and warmer.
The Regional Air Quality Council in Denver is considering a ban on the sale of gas-powered lawn equipment, such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and weed whackers, as well as limiting their commercial use from June to August, starting in 2025. The move is aimed at improving air quality in the Denver Metro Area, as gas-powered lawn equipment is known to be highly polluting. Advocates argue that there are already many electric options available at various price points, but critics, including the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado, believe the technology is not yet supportive of the change. The council will vote on the policies, but state approval will ultimately be required.
Pizzeria Locale, a fast-casual build-your-own style pizza chain in the Denver metro area, will be closing all five of its locations on July 10 and dissolving the business. The parent company, Chipotle Mexican Grill, has offered impacted employees the opportunity to work at Chipotle restaurants in the Denver area. The closures come after the recent closure of Pizzeria Locale's Boulder location in December.
A Tornado Warning was issued for Douglas County until 4:15 p.m. and a confirmed tornado touched down in Highlands Ranch. Several counties in the Denver metro area were also under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Thursday afternoon, including Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson counties.
A winter weather system will bring snow to much of northeastern Colorado as well as snow showers to the Front Range Monday morning. The northeast corner of Colorado will see 3 to 6" of new snow, along with wind gusts up to 40 mph through 6 p.m. Monday. Snow amounts in the Denver metro area will be lower than the plains. The Denver area will likely see less than an inch of snow Monday, but temperatures will remain cold throughout the day. A high-pressure ridge will build over Colorado by Tuesday, bringing fair and warming weather Tuesday through Thursday with highs into the mid-60s by Thursday.
