The US State Department has approved the sale of 40 new F-16 fighter jets to Turkey and 40 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft to Greece, with Turkey also set to upgrade 79 of its existing fleet. The sales are estimated to be valued at up to $23 billion for Turkey and up to $8.6 billion for Greece.
The State Department has approved a $2.5 billion foreign military sale of M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks to Romania. The proposed sale includes 54 tanks, along with various support equipment and vehicles. Romania aims to strengthen its defense capabilities in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine and would become the second operator of the Abrams tank after Poland. The sale still requires approval from Congress.
