A Haifa University student discovered a roughly one-meter-long, 12th-century Crusader sword buried off Dor Beach. A three-foot, one-handed Crusader sword from the 12th century was found by chance by University of Haifa student Shlomi Katsin off Dor Beach near Haifa. X-ray analysis of a sword recovered from the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Israel has revealed that its blade is bent, indicating possible use in a naval battle during the Crusades. The Newe-Yam sword, dating back to the twelfth or thirteenth century, is one of seven swords found in the country from this period. The loss of the weapon may have contributed to the knight's demise, as swords were typically recycled once they were no longer in use.
