The Offensiveness of the Big Bang to Cosmologists.
Some cosmologists found the idea of the Big Bang offensive due to its religious connotations and lack of causal explanation. Arthur Eddington proposed a theory that made the beginning of the Universe less abrupt, while the steady state model proposed that the Universe has always been the same, with no beginning or end in time. The Big Bang model, which originated from Georges Lemaître's primeval atom theory, eventually prevailed due to data and evidence.
