Delayed Diagnosis: The Bacterial Culprit in Eye Infections.
A rare type of bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, infected and blinded a woman's left eye, which was linked to a contaminated bottle of EzriCare artificial tears. The product has been recalled, and at least 68 people in 16 states have been diagnosed with similar eye infections. Eight patients lost vision in at least one eye, four had to have their eyeballs surgically removed, and three have died. The CDC expects more cases will be identified and plans to update its investigation into the cases in the coming weeks.
