Copeland, who was also a pastor, fatally shot himself and was pronounced dead on Friday. The publication of the photos by 1819 News has sparked controversy and criticism. Copeland was known for his leadership during a devastating tornado in 2019, and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones expressed sadness over his death.
