Optimal Efficacy: Co-Administering COVID and Flu Vaccines
Concurrent administration of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine was found to be as effective against poor outcomes as giving the shots separately, according to a study by Pfizer and Genesis Research. The study, which analyzed claims data from over 3 million US adults, showed that coadministration of the vaccines had similar rates of COVID-19 hospitalization and outpatient visits compared to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine alone. Additionally, the coadministration group had slightly lower rates of most flu-related outcomes compared to those who received the flu vaccine alone. These findings support the coadministration of the flu vaccine with COVID-19 boosters during future vaccination campaigns, potentially improving uptake for both vaccines.
