Kenyan Mountaineer Dies, Sherpa Missing on Everest Summit Attempt

Tragedy Strikes Annapurna: Deaths and Miraculous Survival on Nepal's Treacherous Peak

Noel Hanna, a mountaineer from Northern Ireland who had climbed Mount Everest 10 times, died while descending from the summit of Annapurna peak in west Nepal. An Indian climber is also missing on the same mountain, while two other Indian mountaineers were being rescued after being caught up in bad weather. Annapurna peak is considered dangerous because of the risk of frequent avalanches, and at least 72 people have died on the mountain. Climbing Himalayan peaks and hiking on their foot hills are popular adventure sports and a source of employment and income for Nepal.
