FTC Cracks Down on Fake Product Reviews with Tougher Regulations

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has proposed a rule to crack down on marketers who use fake reviews of products, aiming to ban fake reviews, suppress negative reviews, and pay for positive reviews. Violators may face hefty fines, and the rule is intended to level the playing field for honest companies. Fake reviews have been a persistent issue on platforms like Amazon and Google, and the pandemic has exacerbated the problem. The FTC's proposed rule also includes provisions against review hijacking, offering incentives for positive reviews, undisclosed roles of company officers and managers in writing reviews, and other deceptive practices. The FTC will accept public comment on the proposal for 60 days.

Nebraska Senator Blocks Trans Rights Bills While Ban on Gender-Affirming Care Advances

Nebraska state senators advance the controversial "Let Them Grow" act banning gender-affirming care for anyone under 19 and creating civil penalties for anyone violating it. Supporters had just enough votes, 33, to break a three-day filibuster on LB 574. Outside the chamber, some parents of transgender kids and members of the LBGTQ community were in tears. Several senators made emotional pleas not to advance the bill saying it will harm, not protect kids. The bill will still have to survive two more rounds of debate and filibusters.

Nebraska Legislature Advances Controversial Bills on Transgender Rights.

Nebraska lawmakers advanced the Let Them Grow Act, which would ban gender-affirming procedures for those under age 19, to a second round of debate. The bill also provides for civil penalties for doctors or counselors who offer gender-affirming procedures to those under age 19. State Sens. The Nebraska and American Medical Associations oppose the bill, while Republican Gov. Jim Pillen has said he will sign it into law if it reaches his desk.
