Nebraska Senator Blocks Trans Rights Bills While Ban on Gender-Affirming Care Advances

Nebraska state senators advance the controversial "Let Them Grow" act banning gender-affirming care for anyone under 19 and creating civil penalties for anyone violating it. Supporters had just enough votes, 33, to break a three-day filibuster on LB 574. Outside the chamber, some parents of transgender kids and members of the LBGTQ community were in tears. Several senators made emotional pleas not to advance the bill saying it will harm, not protect kids. The bill will still have to survive two more rounds of debate and filibusters.
