Nebraska Legislature Advances Controversial Bills on Transgender Rights.

Nebraska lawmakers advanced the Let Them Grow Act, which would ban gender-affirming procedures for those under age 19, to a second round of debate. The bill also provides for civil penalties for doctors or counselors who offer gender-affirming procedures to those under age 19. State Sens. Megan Hunt and Machaela Cavanaugh have promised to filibuster every bill that comes before lawmakers for the rest of the session. The Nebraska and American Medical Associations oppose the bill, while Republican Gov. Jim Pillen has said he will sign it into law if it reaches his desk.
