Chemical companies Chemours, DuPont, and Corteva have agreed to pay over $1 billion to settle claims that they contaminated public drinking water with PFAS chemicals, also known as "forever chemicals," which have been linked to cancer and other illnesses. The settlement will establish a fund to remove PFAS from public drinking water systems, but it does not resolve all claims against the companies. Hundreds of communities across the US have sued companies over PFAS contamination, and the liability of 3M could be even greater.
