Chad Smith leaves L.A. Phil to become new CEO of Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Chad Smith, the current CEO of the LA Philharmonic, has been named as the next president and CEO of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Smith, who has worked at the LA Philharmonic for over 20 years, will take up his new position in four months' time. He succeeds Gail Samuel, who was ousted last September after trying to rush through rapid changes. Smith has a reputation for high-handedness with staff members, but is also known for his tireless work ethic and intrepid approach to innovative programming.
