MLB pitcher's first career win aided by unusual scoring rule.
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Chad Smith received his first career win thanks to an official scoring rule that allowed him to be credited with the win instead of Jeurys Familia, who was deemed to have a short, ineffective outing. Smith pitched the final two innings of the game against the Baltimore Orioles, holding them scoreless and allowing only one hit. The Athletics won the game 8-4. Smith was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and was traded to the Athletics from the Colorado Rockies in December.
