"Rare Tornadoes Strike Central California Amid Stormy Weather"
Two rare tornadoes touched down in Central California within two days, with one hitting Kings County and the other Madera County. The tornado in Kings County forced students to seek shelter in a school cafeteria, while a blizzard pounded the Sierra Nevada with almost 2 feet of snow and gusts of up to 190 mph, leading to the closure of a 75-mile stretch of Interstate 80 and ski resorts. The unusual weather events were attributed to ideal conditions created by moisture from a winter storm.
