"Satellite and Drone Images Capture California's Stunning Superbloom"
California's superbloom phenomenon, caused by more rain or cooler weather, is so big and bright this year that it can be seen from space. NASA's Landsat 9 satellite captured images of bright purple and green blooms in Carrizo Plain National Park. Several areas in the state are experiencing superblooms this year, with Chino Hills State Park getting a carpet of orange poppies. However, excessive tourism during the 2019 superbloom caused problems, including trampled flowers and a California highway patrol officer's death, leading officials to urge visitors to watch the 2023 bloom from a safe distance.
