Avondale Taqueria Faces Multiple Lawsuits as Salmonella Outbreak Sickens Dozens
Five residents who contracted salmonella after eating at Carniceria Guanajuato in Avondale have filed lawsuits against the taqueria, which has been linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 56 people. The Chicago Department of Public Health found cross-contamination risks during a public health inspection, and the taqueria has been closed since September 8. The law firms Marler Clark and Newland & Newland have retained 20 clients who have filed or will file lawsuits against the taqueria. Salmonella can cause severe symptoms and long-term health issues, and the CDC estimates that 1.35 million Americans contract salmonella each year.
