Salmonella Outbreak at Carniceria Guanajuato Sparks More Infections
The salmonella outbreak linked to Carniceria Guanajuato in Avondale has now resulted in 55 confirmed infections, up from 20 last week, according to the Chicago Department of Public Health. At least 10 people have been hospitalized, and the investigation into the source of the bacteria is ongoing. The restaurant remains closed as owners work with public officials to meet safety standards. The establishment has faced three lawsuits, and anyone who purchased food from the taqueria or the grocery store's prepared food section since August 29 is advised to discard it. Symptoms of salmonella infection include severe diarrhea, dehydration, and high fever, and those experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.
