Minnesota Indian Tribe to Roll Out Cannabis 'Food Truck' for Statewide Expansion

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians in Minnesota plans to launch a mobile dispensary, or "cannabis food truck," to expand its marijuana business across the state. The tribe currently operates one of the state's only adult-use marijuana shops and serves about 300 customers per day. The mobile dispensary will allow the tribe to set up shop anywhere on tribal land, providing more accessibility to consumers. This move comes as Minnesota is in the process of enacting regulations and licensing traditional retailers, which is expected to take at least another year. The Red Lake Nation's NativeCare retailer also plans to open two more shops in addition to the mobile service.

Maryland's Adult-Use Marijuana Sales Soar to $87 Million in First Month

Maryland's marijuana sales reached a record high of $87.4 million in July, the first month since the launch of the recreational market. This more than doubled the sales totals for June when only medical cannabis dispensaries were operating. The majority of sales involved cannabis flower, followed by concentrates, infused edibles, infused non-edibles, shake trim, and plants. The state is actively working on a "cleanup bill" to adjust regulations and will hold town halls with stakeholders to develop permanent regulations.

Navigating Maryland's New Cannabis Laws: Safety, Sales, and Social Impact

Maryland is set to open a regulated and functional retail market for recreational marijuana on July 1, becoming the first jurisdiction in the region to do so. With an estimated four million adults over the age of 21 in Maryland and surrounding jurisdictions interested in accessing the new retail sales, the market is expected to be robust, with estimates for the first year of sales ranging from $400 million to $600 million. Dispensaries will have strict security measures in place, including ID checks and secure premises, and the cannabis products will be tested for safety. While the new law will impact law enforcement and raise concerns about impaired driving, there is wide support for the legalization of cannabis in Maryland.

Minnesota's Latest Legislative Updates on Marijuana and Sports Betting.

Minnesota's marijuana legalization bill would legalize possession and use of marijuana for adults 21 and older, create a new state agency to oversee a legal recreational market, and mandate the expungement of all misdemeanor marijuana offenses. The bill authorizes the production and retail sale of marijuana flower, concentrates, topicals, and edible products, and permits the sale of immature cannabis plants and seeds, as well as hemp-derived THC products. The bill also places strict limits on where the consumption of cannabis products is permitted and allocates funds for drug recognition training for law enforcement to help officers better identify impaired drivers.

NYC's Slow Legal Weed Rollout Sparks Gray Market Cannabis Boom.

The slow rollout of legal weed in the Tri-State area has led to the proliferation of "gray" market cannabis shops, with an estimated 1,400 illicit businesses in New York City alone. While state officials are trying to right the wrongs of the "War on Drugs" with social equity components in their recreational marijuana programs, anti-marijuana activists are trying to slow the fast pace of legal cannabis adoption. The national cannabis market is estimated to reach $71 billion in sales by 2030, with the New York state market alone potentially making up 10% of that.
