
E. coli Outbreak at Calgary Daycares: Nearly 100 Sick, Dozens Hospitalized
An E. Coli outbreak linked to daycare centers in Calgary, Alberta, Canada has resulted in nearly 100 laboratory-confirmed cases, with 22 patients hospitalized. Eleven daycare centers have been closed as investigators collect samples for testing. The source of the outbreak is still unknown, but some parents suspect meatloaf served to children. It could take weeks or months to complete the investigation. Symptoms of E. Coli infection include severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and fever. In severe cases, patients may develop hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can lead to kidney failure and other complications.
