"Neural Rhythms: Unveiling the Brain's Orderly Patterns"

Researchers conducted experiments on mice to investigate minute-scale oscillatory sequences in the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC). They performed surgeries to implant microprisms or glass windows for optical access to the MEC and adjacent areas. Two-photon calcium imaging and electrophysiological data were collected, and Neuropixels probes were used for recording neural signals. The mice were trained to run on a wheel under minimal sensory stimulation conditions. The study provides insights into the neural activity patterns in the MEC and their potential role in spatial navigation and memory.

The Impact of Adolescent Stress on Maternal Behavior and Social Understanding.

Stress during adolescence alters brain functions, influencing postpartum social behavior in mammals. The research utilizes optogenetics and calcium imaging techniques to understand neuronal communication in mice that experienced psychosocial stress during adolescence. It found that this stress, combined with pregnancy and childbirth, impacts the function of the glutamatergic pathway, leading to changes in social behavior. The involvement of a stress-hormone receptor (glucocorticoid receptor) within this pathway suggests the stress hormone’s critical role in postpartum behavioral changes.
