Buu "Billy" Ngo, founder of Kru in Sacramento, is a finalist for the 2024 James Beard Awards for best chef in California, alongside four other contenders. Ngo, who was born in a refugee camp in Hong Kong, opened Kru in 2005 and is also involved in other restaurant ventures. The winners will be announced on June 10 at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony in Chicago.
