Harvard Grads Face Backlash Over Controversial Israel Statement

Billionaire Bill Ackman has called for the release of the names of Harvard students who signed a letter holding Israel "entirely responsible" for the recent attacks by Hamas. Ackman wants the prospective hires to be blacklisted from top Wall Street firms. The letter, signed by 33 student organizations, argued that Israel's "apartheid regime" created the impetus for the war. Ackman's call was supported by other company leaders, while some cautioned against putting college students' names on a list. The letter sparked controversy among Harvard alumni and professors, with former Harvard president Lawrence Summers expressing disillusionment. Harvard president Claudine Gay condemned the Hamas attacks and distanced herself from the letter, stating that no student group speaks for the university or its leadership.

Russia Urges India to Help Avoid Global Financial Blacklist

Russia is pressuring India to help avoid being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in June, warning that key energy and weapons deals would be at risk. If blacklisted, FATF members, banks, investment firms, and payment-processors must perform additional due diligence and could even enact countermeasures. Russia has also said that even being added on the FATF's "gray list" would still threaten deals. Russia has turned to other governments for similar support, while Ukraine has championed the blacklisting, but is not a member itself.

Models Speak Out: Sexual Assault and Blacklisting.

Several models who spoke out against alleged sexual misconduct from high-profile power players say that the fashion industry has failed accusers. In response to coming forward, they claim they’ve been retaliated against, silenced, and blacklisted. Carré Sutton, a former Calvin Klein campaign model, maintains that after speaking out against Gérald Marie’s alleged abuse she was kicked out of her Paris apartment and forced to live in squalor. Her castings were taken away. Sutton filed a lawsuit in New York in 2021 against Marie, alleging she was repeatedly sexually abused at 17 years old by the powerful fashion executive, and sexually trafficked to other men by Marie.
