SpaceX successfully launches Arabsat's Badr-8 satellite into orbit.

SpaceX launched the Badr-8 satellite for Saudi Arabia-based fleet operator Arabsat, equipped with a jamming-resistant optical communications payload demonstrator. The satellite is designed to replace and expand Arabsat’s C-band and Ku-band capacity across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and central Asia over its 15-year design life. Badr-8 also carries an experimental photonics feeder link called Teleo, which Airbus developed with support from France’s space agency. The satellite will take several months to reach its 26 degrees east orbital slot, where it would replace Arabsat’s 15-year-old Badr-6 satellite.

SpaceX set for late-night launch of Arabsat satellite.

SpaceX is set to launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Badr 8 communications satellite for Arabsat from Cape Canaveral. The satellite will replace the 15-year-old Badr 6 satellite in geostationary orbit and provide C-band and Ku-band communications services across the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and Central Asia. The launch will mark SpaceX’s 36th flight of the year and the 26th orbital launch attempt so far in 2023 from Florida’s Space Coast.

SpaceX's Arabsat satellite launch delayed due to bad weather.

SpaceX's launch of the Airbus-built Badr 8 communications satellite for Arabsat was delayed by 24 hours due to bad weather. The Falcon 9 rocket has a launch window of nearly two hours opening at 11:25 p.m. EDT Wednesday, but there's just a 25% chance of favorable weather at the opening of the launch window. The nearly 10,000 pound Badr 8 satellite will provide C-band and Ku-band communications services to replace capacity currently offered by the aging 15-year-old Badr 6 satellite in geostationary orbit.

SpaceX Launches Communications Satellite for Arabsat from Florida.

SpaceX is targeting Tuesday into Wednesday for the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket and commercial communications satellite from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The rocket's 162-foot first stage will target a landing on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean. Weather conditions are only 30% "go," but teams have a more than two-hour window that opens at 11:25 p.m. EDT to launch Arabsat's BADR-8 satellite from Launch Complex 40.
