SpaceX successfully launches Arabsat's Badr-8 satellite into orbit.

SpaceX launched the Badr-8 satellite for Saudi Arabia-based fleet operator Arabsat, equipped with a jamming-resistant optical communications payload demonstrator. The satellite is designed to replace and expand Arabsat’s C-band and Ku-band capacity across Europe, Middle East, Africa, and central Asia over its 15-year design life. Badr-8 also carries an experimental photonics feeder link called Teleo, which Airbus developed with support from France’s space agency. The satellite will take several months to reach its 26 degrees east orbital slot, where it would replace Arabsat’s 15-year-old Badr-6 satellite.

SpaceX successfully launches Arabsat satellite amidst weather concerns.

SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station carrying a commercial communications satellite for Arabsat. The satellite will deliver TV broadcasts, broadband internet, and more to the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and Central Asia. The first stage of the rocket successfully landed on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship, marking SpaceX's 195th successful landing. This was the 26th launch of the year for the Space Coast, with another Falcon 9 rocket set to fly on June 1 to take the next batch of Starlink internet satellites to low-Earth orbit.

SpaceX's Arabsat satellite launch delayed due to bad weather.

SpaceX's launch of the Airbus-built Badr 8 communications satellite for Arabsat was delayed by 24 hours due to bad weather. The Falcon 9 rocket has a launch window of nearly two hours opening at 11:25 p.m. EDT Wednesday, but there's just a 25% chance of favorable weather at the opening of the launch window. The nearly 10,000 pound Badr 8 satellite will provide C-band and Ku-band communications services to replace capacity currently offered by the aging 15-year-old Badr 6 satellite in geostationary orbit.
