Germany and the UK have signed a $72 million deal to develop advanced artillery systems capable of firing on the move and hitting targets over 70 km away, as part of broader military cooperation including long-range precision strikes and submarine hunting, aimed at enhancing their strategic defense capabilities.
The Ukrainian military claims that Russia lost approximately 1,100 soldiers, along with 32 artillery systems, 32 armored personnel vehicles, and seven tanks, in a single day of fighting. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Russia has now lost a total of 311,750 soldiers since the start of the invasion in February 2022. However, these figures have not been independently verified, and other estimates, such as those from the British Ministry of Defence, suggest lower numbers of Russian war dead. Russia has recently intensified its efforts in the town of Avdiivka, and a think tank report revealed that Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone strike on Kyiv.
Ukraine claims that Russian forces lost 18 tanks, 43 armored personnel vehicles (APVs), and 42 artillery systems in a single day, bringing Russia's total tank losses to 5,241 since the start of the war. The Ukraine General Staff also reported 930 Russian casualties in the previous day, totaling 302,420 since the war began. Exact numbers of Russian troop losses are difficult to determine, but the UK Ministry of Defense estimated between 150,000 and 190,000 permanent casualties. Despite these losses, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggests that Russia is preparing for another wave of infantry-led ground assaults. Additionally, there are reports that North Korea may be replenishing Russian supplies of ammunition, including artillery shells.
Ukrainian officials claim that Russia lost 30 artillery systems, 11 tanks, and a plane in a single day, bringing the total number of artillery systems lost by Moscow's forces to 6,477. The total number of Russian military personnel killed is reported to be 278,570. Both Ukraine and Russia have suffered significant losses as Ukraine continues its counter-offensive. Meanwhile, Slovakia's pro-Moscow former prime minister, Robert Fico, has returned to power, signaling a potential shift in Slovakia's support for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military has claimed that Russian forces lost 22 artillery systems and 31 drones in a single day of conflict. The ongoing conflict between the two nations has resulted in over 3,400 lost artillery systems and over 2,900 lost drones since the start of the invasion. The report also claimed that the invading force suffered roughly 480 casualties on Friday, bringing the supposed total since the start of the invasion to around 206,200. The conflict is predicted to continue throughout the rest of the year.
