Ancient and Lost Cities Revealed by Drought and Low Water Levels in Iraq
Archaeologists in Iraq have discovered around 40 ancient tombs dating back over 2,300 years at the edge of the Mosul Dam reservoir, made possible by recent drought conditions that lowered water levels, revealing sites from the Hellenistic or Hellenistic-Seleucid period. The findings are part of ongoing archaeological work in a region increasingly affected by climate change and water shortages.
