Cheese-Whey Filter Extracts Gold from E-Waste
ETH Zurich researchers turn cheese whey into a protein sponge that selectively extracts gold from dissolved e-waste; in tests with 20 discarded motherboards, they recovered about 450 mg of 22-carat gold (91% gold), suggesting a scalable, low-energy, circular method that could extend to other metals.
