The American Farm Bureau Federation's annual survey shows that the cost of a Fourth of July cookout for a party of 10 is down 3% from last year's record high, with families expected to pay $67.73 for 12 staple items. Chicken breast, lemonade, and chocolate chip cookies saw price drops, while hamburger buns, beef, and potato salad were up in price. The cost of this year's cookout is still 14% higher than two years ago, and farmers are not benefiting from higher prices at the grocery store, as their share of the retail food dollar is just 14%.
