Taiwan reported its first case of African swine fever, leading to the culling of 195 pigs and a ban on pig movement across the island to prevent the spread of the fatal virus, which is likely introduced through illegal pork imports.
Vietnam has become the first country to approve the commercial use of two domestically developed vaccines against African swine fever, a deadly disease that has disrupted the global pork market. The vaccines, NAVET-ASFVAC and AVAC ASF LIVE, have shown an efficacy rate of 95% in recent tests on hog herds. The approval could open up opportunities for sales abroad, providing a breakthrough in combating the disease that has caused significant losses in the pig farming industry worldwide. The Vietnamese government has instructed the companies to develop production plans for both domestic and export markets.
