Purdue and Indiana University to Split in Indianapolis

Purdue and Indiana University have agreed to dissolve their joint venture of a shared campus in Indianapolis, known as Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI), and create two separate education entities. Purdue will assume responsibility for existing engineering, computer science, and technology programs at IUPUI and confer Purdue West Lafayette degrees, while IU will assume responsibility and authority over the School of Science at IUPUI, the Music and Arts Technology department, and programs that are currently operated by IU within the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. Purdue still plans to expand its presence in Indianapolis with a new institute branch near the previously-known IUPUI campus.

Columbia University cuts ties with U.S. News college rankings.

Columbia University has announced that it will no longer submit data to the U.S. News & World Report ranking of undergraduate colleges and universities, citing the "outsized influence" rankings may have with prospective students and how they distill a university's profile into a composite of data categories. Many prominent law schools and medical schools around the country in recent months have announced they will no longer cooperate with U.S. News rankings in their fields.

Billionaire Jim Simons donates record $500M to Stony Brook University.

Stony Brook University, a SUNY school on Long Island, is receiving a $500 million donation from the Simons Foundation, one of the largest gifts ever to an American university. The donation will go towards scholarships, academic programs, and research. The State of New York will match 40% of the donation through an endowment idea created by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The donation was made by alumni married couple Marilyn Simons and her husband, billionaire Jim Simons.
