Researchers have created a 3D scaled-down model of Stonehenge to explore its acoustic properties, aiming to mimic ancient ceremonies at the site. The model, named 'Stonehenge Lego,' was constructed using laser scans and 3D printing technology, with replicas of 27 stones and 130 additional elements. The model demonstrated that the structure may have acted as an acoustic chamber, enhancing auditory experiences within its confines for ceremonial or funerary purposes. This study sheds new light on how the monument might have been used in prehistory, using modern techniques to uncover insights about the distant past.
Magellan Ltd. has created the first-ever full-sized digital scan of the Titanic, mapping the entirety of the shipwreck site, from its separated bow and stern sections to its vast debris field. The project generated an unprecedented 16 terabytes of data and more than 715,000 still images and 4k video footage. Experts in Titanic history and deep-sea exploration are hailing the model as an invaluable research tool that could help scientists and historians solve some of the ship's lingering mysteries and learn more about other underwater sites.
Researchers from the Human Brain Project have developed a high-resolution 3D model of the CA1 region of the human hippocampus, replicating the structure and architecture of the area, along with the position and relative connectivity of the neurons. The dataset is available in the BigBrain Atlas and will soon be available on EBRAINS. The same methodology could be applied to generate full-scale models of other human brain areas and also to be integrated in a co-simulation environment such as The Virtual Brain.
