Global Water Crisis: Looming Threats and Missed Opportunities.

The number of people in cities without access to safe drinking water will double by 2050, according to the UN World Water Development Report. The report also found that between 2 billion and 3 billion people experience water shortages for at least a month a year. The UN is holding its first water conference since 1977 in New York this week, co-hosted by the governments of the Netherlands and Tajikistan, at which global water issues will be discussed by ministers and a small number of heads of state from around the world. The report calls for the creation of new water funds and finance schemes that bring together users of water in cities with businesses and utilities to invest in water resources.
