Hotspots: Regions Most Vulnerable to Future Heat Waves Identified by Scientists

Scientists have identified regions in Russia, Central America, central Europe, China, and Australia, as well as Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and northwestern Argentina, as being most at risk from the damaging impact of heat waves due to climate change. These regions lack preparation and infrastructure to handle extreme temperatures, and some have rapidly growing populations. The study's authors call for better preparation as heat waves become more common, especially in areas without a history of extreme heat. The UNICEF has warned that over two billion children around the world would face frequent heat waves by 2050.
