A series of powerful bursts of hot plasma from the sun, known as coronal mass ejections, are expected to cause strong auroras visible in Massachusetts this week. The National Weather Service has issued a geomagnetic storm watch based on recent observations. The best chance to see the northern lights will be in Canada, but it is possible to see them as far south as the Mass Pike. Skywatchers should look north and get away from city lights for the best viewing experience.
