"Ingenuity Helicopter Achieves Record-Breaking Flight on Mars"

NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter set a new distance record on the Red Planet by flying 2,315 feet (705 meters) on December 20, 2023, surpassing its previous record by 5 feet. The helicopter, which arrived on Mars with the Perseverance rover in February 2021, has been demonstrating the feasibility of aerial exploration in Mars' thin atmosphere. During its extended mission, Ingenuity has completed 70 flights, covering a total of about 11 miles (17.7 kilometers), while assisting the Perseverance rover in its search for signs of ancient life and collecting samples for future analysis on Earth.
