Preparations are underway to bring back three astronauts who have spent nearly a year on the International Space Station (ISS), six months longer than planned, due to the catastrophic damage suffered by their Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft. The Soyuz MS-23 rescue craft is being prepared for their return to Earth, while the damaged spacecraft was brought back in March. The extended stay means that Nasa astronaut Frank Rubio will set a new record for the longest time spent by an American astronaut in space, and the Russian cosmonauts will also set a new record for the longest time spent by Russians on the ISS.
