"Odysseus Lunar Lander's Historic Moon Landing: Farewell Image and Science Updates"

The Odysseus lander, the first U.S. spacecraft to land on the moon in 50 years, has sent a final image from the lunar surface before powering down for the lunar night. Despite facing challenges such as a malfunction with its landing lasers and snapping one of its legs upon touchdown, the lander successfully transmitted a photo showcasing the crescent Earth in the backdrop. Intuitive Machines, the company behind the lander, hopes to reawaken it when sunlight strikes its solar panels again in about three weeks. The mission is part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program aimed at incentivizing private-sector lunar lander development for transporting cargo and scientific equipment to the moon.
