Smithsonian Receives Asteroid Bennu Samples After Epic 200 Million Mile Journey

Fragments from asteroid Bennu, collected by NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft after a 200 million mile journey, will be displayed at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. The exhibit will include pristine dark rocks and dust from Bennu, as well as scale models of the spacecraft and rocket used in the mission. The samples already exceed the mission's goal of collecting 60 grams of debris, and early analysis has revealed an abundance of carbon and water molecules.
