Nuclear-Powered Spacecraft Planned for 2030s Launch

The RocketRoll project, a collaboration among various companies, has completed its initial phase in developing a nuclear-powered space tug, aiming to revolutionize space propulsion by the 2030s. This initiative, backed by the European Space Agency, seeks to demonstrate the viability of nuclear electric propulsion for long-duration space missions, potentially making it a standard for future spacecraft. The project will explore nuclear fission systems, with a demonstrator expected by 2035, to enhance space logistics and exploration capabilities.
