NASA will launch three sounding rockets from its Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia before, during, and after Monday’s solar eclipse to study the eclipse's impact on the Earth's atmosphere, particularly the ionosphere and its effects on radio and satellite communications. The rockets, part of the Atmospheric Perturbations around Eclipse Path (APEP) mission, will deploy smaller instruments to measure data points, aiming to confirm and expand on previous findings from the 2023 eclipse. The launches will be livestreamed on NASA's platforms.
